Why would I record my story?
My life is mostly behind me.
No one wants to hear about it.
It wasn't that exciting the first time. Why review it?
Does my story matter?
I say yes, it absolutely does.
Don't kid yourself. You're thinking about the past anyway. Every day.
You replay the choices you made, wonder if you should have done something differently, and perhaps you even wish you could turn back the clock.
Would it surprise you to know that you actually can?
No, you cannot change the outcomes, but you can change the way you look at your life.
As you tell your story to a compassionate and skilled listener, your thinking changes.
Scientists study this, with terms
such as interpersonal neurobiology, mirror neurons, neuroplasticity, and dignity therapy.
And even if you don't change the way you think about your life, you can unburden yourself to an empathetic but objective listener.
I have been interested in the way people think about their stories ever since I was young, and I have practiced the craft of writing for just as long.
I have participated in 100+ hours of training to become a lay minister focused on listening and caring for people.
I can help you process your unique story, and together we can record it for generations to come.
How did you experience moments in history?
What was life like before cell phones and the internet?
How did the times you lived in make you into the person you became?
Do you have words of wisdom that you want to pass along?
Your family may not have time to listen to you now, but they will someday.
